2017 – The Pages

As I said before, I started the year using my Filofax. I have previously dabbled with inserts bought from various Etsy sellers and a couple of years ago I spent quite a lot of money on Piaric inserts. They were amazing, however, they just didn’t work for me. As I’ve said before, I tend to stuff my planner, so the wonderful paper quality was actually a problem for me. My Filofax weighed about three stone with them in and I just couldn’t fit everything I wanted in with them, so I would end up only carrying a few months at a time. I don’t like that, I like to have my whole year and be able to check back to things, so I went back to a mixture of Filofax and WH Smith refills. I always found that their ranges tend to complement each other. I know a lot of people who don’t like the thin paper, but I love it and as I was using Frixion fine liners, I never had a real problem with bleed-through. Ghosting is neither here nor there as far as I’m concerned. It really doesn’t bother me at all.

So my selection of inserts at the beginning of 2017 was:

  • Filofax  Vertical Year Planner
  • Filofax Month on Two Pages
  • Filofax Week on Two Pages – Lined
  • WH Smith Address Pages
  • WH Smith Finance Pages
  • Narrow-lined Paper
  • Blank Paper
  • Un-dated Day Planner Sheets
  • To-Do Sheets
  • Website/Email Sheets
  • Filofax Telephone Number Cards
  • Random Obsolete Pages (Possibly not available since 1990)
  • Three or Four Business Card Holders (Full)
  • Filofax Assorted Sticky Notes

To be fair, I didn’t need half of that, but I hoard refills and take a belt ‘n’ braces approach to loading my Filofax. I could probably run a huge corporation for a year out of it.

One of the best things for me about going over to Bullet Journal is that it’s taken away the urge to by more refills of differing types. If I want to try a new tracker or whatnot, I just write it down. It only costs me a page and if I decide not to use it or can’t be bothered, then it’s really no big deal.

My selection of pages in my BuJo at the end of the year is as follows:

  • Future Log – 3 Months Per Page
  • Habit Trackers – Month Per Page (Abandoned)
  • Level 10 Life (Abandoned)
  • Monthly Pages
  • Mood Tracker (Unused)
  • Books to Read (Abandoned)
  • TV Series (Abandoned)
  • Milestones (Unused)
  • Miracle Morning (Abandoned with Gusto!)
  • Various Useful/Task Related Lists

What I’ve learned from looking at this properly, is not to draw up unnecessary trackers just because they look nice on Pinterest. I won’t use them and I don’t need them. They seem to work well for other people, but they’re just not for me and that I must’ve spent a small fortune on unused Filofax inserts over the years.

Next year, I will attempt to stick with what works.
